Fabulous Features of QuickBooks 2013
I’ve been a power user of QuickBooks® for over 20 years and it is because it is constantly growing to meet the ever changing needs of their users. We know that business owners didn’t go into business because they love accounting, and that is why we work with clients every day to understand how the features can change their business lives. It is more then just bookkeeping software. It’s a complete accounting package where you can do budgeting, payroll, invoicing, inventory and contact management, your bookkeeping, and so much more! Here are the top 7 things I like in QuickBooks® 2013.
Multiple contacts – I absolutely love the fact that we can now have multiple contacts with full information for our vendors and customers. Before, we had just the main contact and an alternate contact but we couldn’t store more than a few phone numbers and emails. We all know that isn’t going to be enough in this day and age. We might have a half a dozen contacts at any given business or customer and we need an easy way to track that information.
Attach documents – No need for that filing cabinet any more. You can scan and attach copies of documents to names as well as transactions. I share this feature and the ease of locating supporting documents to every client I have that isn’t using it. I use it for employee documents, client contracts, bill copies, and so much more!
Calendar feature – Are you a visual person and you want to be able to see when bills are paid, what transactions were entered yesterday and more? Then you will appreciate this feature!
Mobile App Integration – We lead very busy lives and having access to our QuickBooks® information on the go is a time saver. Being able to swipe credit cards on your Smart Phone or iPod means you get paid anytime, anywhere.
Advanced Inventory – QuickBooks® has taken some heat over the years for their minimal inventory functionality but they have stepped up. Now you can choose multiple third party software that integrates with QuickBooks or subscribe to the Advanced Inventory upgrade based on your particular needs. Barcode scanning, multiple locations, along with many other features are now available.
Software as a Service – If you like the desktop features of QuickBooks better than QuickBooks Online, now you have the option of having a hosted platform. This is what we use in our firm and it is life changing. We host our QuickBooks files online and our clients and staff can access them via Internet wherever they are. Yet we still have the full functionality of QuickBooks desktop vs. the online version. It’s truly the best of both worlds. QuickBooks Statement Writer – This allows you to be able to easily customize reports to meet your specific needs and updating the information is easy. No more spending hours each month creating all these specialized reports. Create them once in the Statement Writer and you can use it endlessly.
I could go on and on about the many things that you can do within QuickBooks. Not all of these features are brand new in 2013, but I find many do not know about them even if they had access to it in prior versions. I find that only about 40% of our clients truly use more then the checkbook feature when we are introduced.
